The 2009 Arizona Cardinals- Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl is only 4 years old. Only in the toddler stage where you remember the first teeth-cutting, the first steps, (though clearly, out of bounds) and the first time you were actually proud to tell your relatives that you stood up and cheered when your youngest took wing and burned a Pittsburgh guy down the middle. But times are a-changing and it may be time for one youngin' to leave the nest.
Only Larry Fitzgerald, Darnell Dockett, Calais Campbell, Levi Brown and Lyle Sendlein are the remaining infants from that season and some fans are pulling the pacifier from Sendlein. Can Dockett be far behind in picking up his hobo stick with diaper attached and hiking down the block?
Dockett was a non-factor last season in former DC's Ray Horton system, playing mostly at defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, with a career second worst 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He is due 4.5 million this season. If a DT such as Floyd or Lotulelei is chosen in the first round it could be the demise of Dockett, who is also facing rumors off the field .
It's not a well-received position to be in for the soon-to-be 32-year old that likes to show his publicly perceived immature nature with holdouts, cops, public showering, inhabiting unlawful reptiles and ignoring coaching orders.
Maybe time to take the scissors and cut the umbilical cord on this one.
Or would that be throwing out the baby with the bathwater?
