2013 NFL Draft: Is Star Lotulelei a wild card pick for the Arizona Cardinals?

The defensive lineman could end up being a surprise pick for Arizona should one particular scenario play out.

The Arizona Cardinals have mostly been connected to offensive tackles when talking about anything related to the NFL Draft. It makes sense, considering the offensive line struggles the team has dealt with. In other mock drafts, the team selects a pass rusher.

However, according to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, there may be a pick the Cardinals make that will surprise you.

On Wednesday's show for Path to the Draft on NFL Network, Jeremiah said that should a situation play out that has all three top left tackle prospects (Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson) be off the board by the time the Cardinals pick at number seven, Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei could be "one of their fallback options."

The Miami Dolphins are rumored to be coveting one of the three offensive tackles. They very well may trade up to land Johnson, leaving Arizona with no tackle option.

In those cases, pretty much the consensus would be to take either guard Chance Warmack or go with one of the pass rushers like Dion Jordan, Barkevious Mingo or Ezekiel Ansah.

Jeremiah, who apparently is getting his information from someone within the organization, is saying that the team would prefer to take Lotulelei, who would play the position that Dan Williams now does.

If this report is true, the one thing it points to is how the new coaching staff must not be sold on Dan Williams. Williams was strong against the run last season, but was taken off the field for nickel packages. Lotulelei would most likely be an upgrade, but many fans would see this as a luxury pick.

However, the organization has been very adamant that they will not pick for need. If Lotulelei is who they have graded higher, he would have to be the pick then. Of course, this would assume that he would even be a available' at number seven.

How big a surprise would it be if the Cardinals drafted Star?
