Other than CB Patrick Peterson, the secondary positions are very much up in the air, waiting for someone to make a play on them.
When the club announced that they will "exhaust" every opportunity this offseason to find a Door number two quarterback, you have to wonder if they were insinuating the cornerback/safety slots, because it 's been the one with the most turnover.
Out with the old: Safeties Adrian Wilson and Kerry Rhodes with cornerbacks William Gay and Greg Toler.
Still unsigned free agents: CBs Michael Adams and Greg McCoy and S James Sanders.
Newbies: S Johnathon Amaya, Yeremiah Bell and Curtis Taylor with CBs Jerraud Powers, Antoine Cason and Bryan McCann.
Incumbents: S Rashad Johnson and CBs Jamell Fleming and Justin Bethel.
That's a lot of cover guys - even for nickle/dime packages.
While only Powers seems to be a lock of the pledges with his three year deal, you'd have to think that Bell and Cason will get play because of the team's interest in signing them. Amaya has played under new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles with the Miami Dolphins and it's too early to give up on Flemming and Bethel from last year's draft.
Training camp will provide probable answers to some of the questions, but as right now, pre-draft (and does the club take more secondary guys in three weeks?) who's in and who's out?
