Rashard Mendenhall is clear starter at RB(right now), is 'healthy and ready to go'

Another position appears to have a clear starter'.

USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians made it very clear from Day 1 that Carson Palmer would be his starting quarterback. He made no such declaration about other positions...until Wednesday.

While a guest on NFL AM, Arians was asked about running back Rashard Mendenhall and if he would be the starter. Arians answered, "There's no doubt."

Of course, the question was asked with the caveat of "if the season started right now," but we know that the starting job is his.

It is not surprising. All offseason, Mendenhall has been running with the first team.

"He took me personally to the Super Bowl," said Arians about the running back. "I know what he brings to the table as a runner and a pass protector, and also as a receiver."

"He's an every down player," he continued.

When asked about Mendenhall's health, Arians said that he is "healthy and ready to go."

Signed in the offseason to a one-year contract, Mendenhall has every reason to look forward to a good season. He will playing for a contract.

So while Ryan Williams is looking to make his impact and rookies Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington will be trying to get into games, it sounds like Mendenhall will be the team's workhorse.
