The Arizona Cardinals made some roster moves on Tuesday, letting go of one of last season's fan favorites. The team waived running back William Powell, tight end Kyle Auffray and receiver Michael Rios. They also signed undrafted rookie receiver Robby Toma, who was a high school and college teammate of San Diego Chargers second round draft pick Manti Te'o.
Powell was last year's preseason star. He led the entire league in preseason rushing and many fans fell in love with him. However, with the signing of Rashard Mendenhall and the drafting of Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington, the writing was on the wall. It seemed that the only way he was going to make the final roster was by winning the kick returner job outright.
In a way, this is better for him because he will be able to perhaps sign with a team that has a better situation for him.
Auffray and Rios were both undrafted free agents. Rios was waived and was designated with a non-football injury.
Toma, the new receiver, previously tried out with the Baltimore Ravens. He is small --5- 9, 180 pounds. He can run a 4.5 40.
His claim to fame is being best friends with Mani Te'o.
No other moves have been announced.
