Entering Saturday, the Arizona Cardinals had 88 men on preseason roster. They reportedly added a player on Saturday, making it 89, one short of the maximum 90.
According to Aaron Wilson, who covers the Baltimore Ravens, the team tried out and signed undrafted rookie receiver Nick Edwards, who went to school at Eastern Washington.
Edwards was originally a walk-on there and made the team. He is 6-3 and 201 pounds and can run a sub-4.6 40.
He finished his career with 215 receptions for 2,634 yards (12.2 yard avg.) and 33 touchdowns. His best season was as a junior in 2011 when he caught a school record 95 passes for 1,250 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead the Football Championship Subdivision. He was selected to nine NCAA FCS All-America teams in addition to being named first-team All-Big Sky and the team's MVP following that season.
He suffered a knee injury in 2012.
One scouting report says this about Edwards, noting he could be a fifth receiver for a team.
Positive: Nice-sized receiver who displayed NFL skills prior to his injury last season. Quickly releases off the line into pass routes, comes back to the ball out of breaks, and extends his hands, offering the quarterback a target. Looks the pass into his hands, easily adjusts to catch errant throws in stride, and effectively tracks deep passes. Consistent hand catcher who displays focus and consistently makes the reception away from his frame. Fights to come away with the ball in a crowd. Gives effort blocking.
Negative: Rounds off routes and shows minimal sharpness into breaks. Lacks the deep speed and not a vertical threat. Timed poorly in the 40 prior to his knee injury.
He will wear number 19.
