Arizona Cardinals preseason: Tyrann Mathieu standing out, Darnell Dockett fading after two games

Jess and Seth got the podcast going again and talked preseason.

The Arizona Cardinals have two games in the books now and two wins. That means it was time to get the ROTB podcast going again and talk about the preseason so far.

Seth and I talked about a few things -- I went down through the first two games and wins and then we talked about the following:

Players that have stood out after two games

Seth talks about Tyrann Mathieu, Kerry Taylor and Jaron Brown. I was impressed by Tony Jefferson and Jerraud Powers.

How we would fill out the final three receiver spots

Seth would go Kerry Taylor, Charles Hawkins and Jaron Brown. I would go with Taylor, Brown and said look at Robby Toma to sneak in.

The key position battles at CB and at both tackle positions

We both talked about how Jerraud Powers has all but locked up the CB2 spot. As for the offensive line, Levi Brown and Eric Winston seem to have cemented their spots in the starting lineup. Both Bobby Massie and Nate Potter have not made big progress.

I give my insight on Massie's struggles mentally.

What players are fading

I go with the tight end position as a whole. Ryan Williams is clearly one of those players, although I think Williams is still being given a chance to show what he can do this year. Antoine Cason is mentioned, but Seth says that Darnell Dockett has been that guy. I also bring up Sam Acho.

What we have liked

Despite a really bad final series, I talked about how much I like having a QB that can make NFL throws. I also like the defensive intensity and focus on taking the ball away. Seth has been impressed with the offensive line.

Concerns

I am concerned with the chunks of yards the first team defense has given up to starting quarterbacks. I worry that the turnovers are the result of luck. Red zone offense is a concern.

The players that need to step up against the Chargers

I say Ryan Williams, Tony Jefferson (since I think he is still on the outside looking in when it comes to the final roster). I think that the tight ends as a collective group need to step up. Seth says D.C. Jefferson, Alex Okafor and the two rookie running backs.
