Fan poll: Who will win kickers battle, Jay Feely or Dan Carpenter?

The Arizona Cardinals sent a very clear message to kicker Jay Feely when they signed Dan Carpenter -- he is on notice.

Carpenter is a guy that has beaten Feely out once before -- in Miami. Will it happen again?

In a post by Mike Sando for ESPN, you can see the comparison in numbers -- in 2012, Feely was a little better, hitting 25/28 attempts. Carpenter hit 22/27. Feely was 2/2 beyond 50 yards, Carpenter was 2/5. Feely missed one kick from 30-39 yards (it was actually tipped -- in happened in the game against Buffalo after having hit a 61 yarder to tie the game). Carpenter was perfect in that range.

Carpenter and Feely both had the same touchback percentage, but Carpenter averaged two yards more per kick.

Feely is unfazed, having tweeted this.

Also, in an interview via Arizona Sports, he welcomes the competition.

"I've had competition my whole career. There's competition whether somebody is here or not. You're always competing against every other kicker in camp and even guys that aren't in camp," said Feely. "I've been there myself, so it doesn't change anything for me. I'm comfortable with what Coach (Bruce) Arians told me and I'm just going to keep competing. I'm happy with where I'm at right now and the progression to get ready for St. Louis."

This isn't the first time that he has been pushed. The team brought in Josh Brown last season and Feely stepped up and finished a very good season.

However, at this point in camp, where there is smoke, there is fire. The same thing happened with punter Ben Graham in 2011. The coaching staff wasn't thrilled with his play in camp and they brought in Dave Zastudil in the middle of camp. Graham was cut at the end and Zastudil has been the team's punter ever since.
