Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians gave the media an update regarding rookie offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper, who broke his right fibula in the second half of Saturday's game against the San Diego Chargers. It will be possible for him to return before the end of the season.
Arians said that the surgery went well at that the doctors did not have to insert a rod. He could return in 10-12 weeks as a best case scenario, and the team hopes that he could play in the final six games.
This will likely mean that they will place Cooper on injured reserve with designation to return.
In the meantime, Daryn Colledge will move back the left guard in place of Cooper and Paul Fanaika, who had a good training camp, will start at right guard. Chilo Rachal will back up Colledge at left guard.
If Cooper can return, it would stop the trend of the Cardinals losing at least one player to a season-ending injury in the preseason -- something that has happened the past two seasons.
