The Arizona Cardinals finished off their preseason slate with a 32-24 won over the Denver Broncos to finish the preseason 3-1. That is when the waiting, hoping and praying began for a lot of players.
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians and general manager Steve Keim gave some insight as to what could and will happen.
To begin, Arians revealed, via Darren Urban, that tight end Jeff King will have knee surgery. That likely means injured reserve and the likely end of his stay with the Cardinals, as he is in the final year of his contract.
Arians also said that the team would keep all five running backs on the roster, which would include Ryan Williams, whose spot on the roster was in question after a lot of time missed due to injury. Williams was relieved, but that doesn't mean he is completely out of the woods. Personally, keeping five backs tells me that they will deal him. With five backs on the roster, I just don't see how he would be used.
One possible casualty is defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin. He suffered a shoulder injury that took him out of the game. Based on two postgame tweets (the first one and the second one), it sounds like the injury could be enough to keep him from playing for a while.
The NFL's deadline for making cuts down to 53 players is Saturday at 6PM EST. The Cardinals will waste no time. General manager Steve Keim said they would cut 22 players by noon Friday.
He also said that the team has about five or six tough decisions to make.
Quarterback Ryan Lindley is one of those decisions. Arians has said he would consider going with only two quarterbacks. He said (via Darren Urban's Twitter feed) that Lindley played a great game, but "it's still going to be a tough decision."
