9/1 Arizona Cardinals news: Cardinal cut-downs, Tyrann Mathieu for Rookie of the Year

New, comment

A sad day for some brought elation to others as the NFL saw teams trim their rosters down to the "final" 53.

Look for the first wave of analysis regarding the Cardinals' initial 53-man roster. Who made it, who didn't, and why? Tyrann Mathieu appears to be a popular pick for Rookie of the Year (already!), and with the way the rest of the secondary has played during the preseason it's not a stretch to think he'll be on the field plenty. Finally, take a look around the league at other team's cuts or brush up on the NFL's rules regarding the practice squad.

Most significant move: Placing linebacker Daryl Washington on the reserve/suspended list for the first four games was easily the most significant move.

Rookie of the Year Predictions
Eddie Lacy and Tyrann Mathieu are among the first-year players who are expected to break out this season, as the ATL scribes make their Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year predictions.
