If you watched the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Detroit Lions, it was not pretty. The offense struggled. Carson Palmer threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Calvin Johnson had two touchdown receptions, yet they still game away with a win to even their record at 1-1 on the season.
Here are some of the numbers:
1/11: This was one of the negatives. Arizona converted on only nine percent of its third downs. That one came late in the second half and even took a challenge to have it happen.
0: The number of points and third down conversions allowed by the Arizona defense in the second half. Detroit did score a defensive touchdown, but the offense did not score. At the half, Detroit was 3/6 on third down. They ended 3/11 and also 0/1 on fourth down.
3: The number of missed field goals by David Akers. The stat sheet actually only shows two, but Akers missed a 52-yarder that was nullified when Justin Bethel ran into him. He had missed that kick wide left. He missed the ensuing 47-yard attempt wide right. He then had a 47-yarder blocked by Bethel in the second half.
Fun fact: Akers struggles against the Cardinals. Including the one nullified today, he has missed nine kicks against Arizona in five games, including three that have been blocked.
1: The number of sacks allowed by the Arizona offensive line. Carson Palmer was hit an additional six times according to the box score, but this is a marked improvement on the line's Week 1 performance.
2/20: Calvin Johnson, after six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, was held to two catches for 20 yards in the second. This sort of keeps with the theme of second half defensive dominance by the Cards.
4: The number of running plays the Cardinals offense had for more than 10 yards.
3: The number of rushing plays that went for negative yards.
6: The number of Cardinals pass plays that went for at least 15 yards.
5: The number of Detroit pass plays that went for at least 15 yards.
49/2.5: The number of rushing yards and the yards per carry that the Cardinals allowed the Lions throughout the whole game.
68: The number of Matthew Stafford passing yards in the second half. In the first half, he was 16/20 for 210 yards and two scores, a QB rating of 143.5. In the second, he was 8/16 for 68 yards, a QB rating of 61.5.
34: The number of Patrick Peterson offensive yards. He caught a 17-yard pass and completed a 17-yard pass to Kerry Taylor.
4: The number of Dave Zastudil punts downed inside the 20. He had no touchbacks.
