2013 NFL picks against the spread: Monday Night Football begins with RG3 and Michael Vick

Where should you place your money for these games?

Patrick McDermott

After starting the week 0-5-1, things got better Sunday afternoon. My "expert" against the spread picks for Week 1 had only one incorrect pick after that (and who could have imagined Geno Smith playing well after looking so dreadful in the preseason?).

Now it is time for the Week 1 Monday Night Football doubleheader. It started with Robert Griffin giving it a go for the Redskins against Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles. It is capped off with the Texans and the Chargers.

Redskins (-3.5) at Eagles: Robert Griffin returns after his ACL tear. The Eagles will send out their Chip Kelly offense with Michael Vick at the helm. Vick still has a penchant for holding onto the ball. The Redskins still field the team that won the division. Does anyone think that a torn ACL is actually an injury anymore? When it comes to the playmaking quarterbacks, whom do you trust more...Vick or Griffin? That would be Griffin for me. Pick: Skins -3.5.

Texans (-4.0) at Chargers: Houston has just been consistently good while San Diego is hoping to reverse their 2012 fortunes. Houston's defense features J.J. Watt and returns Brian Cushing. The San Diego pass defense has been good. At this point, I'm going out on a limb and going with the favorite -- or is that not a limb? I don't trust the Chargers yet, especially since Philip Rivers is in a new offense. Pick: Texans, -4.0.
