The Arizona Cardinals got a win to improve to 4-1 on the season. What do the numbers say?
Arizona forced four turnovers
Arizona recovered a fumble and picked off three Kirk Cousins' passes.
The Cardinals didn't turn the ball over
Arizona is now +8 on the season in the turnover department. In five games the Cardinals have yet to throw an interception.
With a banged up defense, Arizona allowed only 72 yards rushing
With no Calais Campbell or Matt Shaughnessy, they gave up fewer yards then their average. And they did against a team that averages over 100 yards per game.
Washington was only 2/10 on third down
The defense did its job here.
Arizona was penalized 14 times for 108 yards
This was terrible. Arizona had been penalized 20 times all season coming into the game.
Time of possession was heavily in favor of Arizona
For the game, Arizona held the ball over 34 minutes. After trailing by one play 32-31 in the first half, the Cardinals ran 37 plays to Washington's 25.
Larry Fitzgerald got involved
He had six catches for 98 yards and his first touchdown of the season. What was more was the impact. He was making big plays and impacting the game. We haven't seen much of that from him in the passing game.
Carson Palmer was solid
He wasn't perfect, but he completed over 63 percent of his passes for 250 yards and two scores. That is a passer rating of 93.9. Over his last 11 starts, he has completed over 65 percent of his passes and has 20 touchdowns to go with nine interceptions. The team is 9-2 in those starts.
Andre Ellington almost reached 100 yards from scrimmage
He had 67 yards rushing on 19 attempts and six catches for 26 yards, giving him 93 yards from scrimmage. He has an even 400 yards from scrimmage on the season.
Catanzaro is still perfect
After hitting another three field goal attempts, he is now a perfect 14/14 on the season. He might be the best pickup the Cardinals made in the offseason.
DeSean Jackson had a big game
But it wasn't as big as you think. He had 115 yards receiving...on three catches. One was a 64-yard score. But he was held to one catch for nine yards in the second half.
Tight end issues still
Tight end Jordan Reed caught eight passes for 92 yards. Yuck. At least he didn't score.
Milestones:
Larry Fitzgerald caught his 88th career touchdown pass. That put him in 12th on the NFL's all-time list.
Jerraud Powers picked off his third interception of the season. It is a career high for him in a season and ties him for best in the league.
