The Arizona Cardinals had their first day of practice getting ready for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Guess what? Carson Palmer practiced!
That's good news.
The team released the first injury report and there were, for the most part, no surprises. Calais Campbell sat out practice, although he is now able to jog around. Defensive end Frostee Rucker sat out with a banged up calf, but Bruce Arians already has said Rucker will have to manage the injury probably all year. Tight end Troy Niklas still sat out with a high ankle sprain and the one injury we hadn't heard about before was tight end John Carlson. He did not practice because of a knee injury. He was hit in the knee with his first catch of the game on Sunday.
Six other players were limited in practice.
Quarterback Carson Palmer is on that list, but it doesn't seem like there is much worry about his missing time. Bruce Arians (via AZCardinals.com) said Palmer's shoulder doesn't need rest, but reps.
Rookie linebacker Glenn Carson, who has missed a coupe of weeks of practice, was upgraded to limited with his ankle injury.
The other players limited were running back Andre Ellington (foot), cornerback Patrick Peterson (ankle), receiver Michael Floyd (groin) and outside linebacker Alex Okafor (thigh).
Ellington is going to have to manage his foot injury all year. He might not be 100 percent at all this season. Peterson will not miss any playing time with his sprained ankle. We'll have to wait and see with Floyd. He had a groin issue during training camp that sidelined him for a bit. Okafor's thigh is hopefully just sore after coming back last week.
For Oakland, here is their injury report:
