Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians gave some more information about the injury to Drew Stanton's knee. Initial reports were that it was a knee sprain, but Arians wouldn't get into specifics as to what the injury is. "I'm not very good with those injury terms," he said, indicating the doctors can do that.
Arians confirmed the reports that Stanton will not need surgery, but said "there is no timetable."
They are confident Stanton will return this season, "we just don't know when."
"It'll be a day-to-day thing," he said, after noting Stanton is wearing a brace and is on crutches.
Ian Rapoport reported Stanton's injury is the same as the one Larry Fitzgerald suffered -- a Grade 2 MCL sprain. That injury kept Fitz out two games. Rapoport said Stanton is expected back for the playoffs.
Arians said "he would be surprised" if Stanton were able to play next Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.
Who will start in Stanton's place in the meantime? Arians doesn't know yet.
"Well sit down and make a game plan for both (Ryan Lindley and Logan Thomas) and see how it goes," Arians said.
Whoever starts between Lindley and Thomas, it won't be decided in an open competition. "I'll just sit down and think about which one I want," he said.
He did stress "it doesn't have anything to do with what I think about Logan as a player," as it is just about timing and comfort.
He did emphasize that whoever starts, he should be comfortable with whatever he is given to work with.
