When Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians met with the media on Monday, he announced that Ryan Lindley would start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
He also confirmed an earlier report that they "will have a package for Logan (Thomas)."
Lindley came on in relief against the Rams after Stanton went down with a knee injury. He completed 4/10 passes.
This will be Lindley's first start since his rookie season in 2012, when he was thrown to the fire when John Skelton was playing poorly and the Cardinals were losing football games. Lindley struggled, never throwing a touchdown pass and getting picked off seven times.
Arians says it is different this time around. Arians has been on the record as saying before that Lindley played before he should have.
"I think he's a little bit more ready now, having been back in the system for a while," said Arians, noting that Lindley gives the team a better chance of winning right now.
He did also say he "wouldn't be surprised" if Thomas played on Sunday, too.
When asked about what about Lindley Arians likes, he was very complimentary, like he has been since Day 1.
"He's a very bright guy," he said. "He understands this offense. He's got more than enough arm and knows what to do with the football. He knows how to protect himself, as far as 'hots' and 'sights' and everything else."
Arians said more on the radio with Dan Bickley and Vince Marotta on Arizona Sports 98.7.
"He's extremely smart, first of all. He's accurate. He's got a strong-enough arm," Arians said. "He can get the ball out of his hand like he did the other night. He got us a field goal right away.
"He has experience. He's been out there to war. He's failed and he's been successful. I felt like he gave us the best chance to win the game."
Are you ready for a Lindley start? Can Cardinals fans get 2012 out of their heads? It will be hard. Is Lindley the same guy that he was his rookie year, or is there more there? Will we get to see why Arians has shown a lot of confidence in him since the day he was hired?
