It was a day later than normal, but the Revenge of the Birds Radio podcast was able to get Matt Verderame from Arrowhead Pride on the show to preview the game this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. As always, it was an absolute pleasure to have one of the many fine SB Nation writers on the show with me.
Verderame ran down the offseason moves the Chiefs made, letting go of a lot of players. He told me about the progress of Dee Ford, the Chiefs' first round pick and about the tough start, the great play and then the two-game losing streak the team is currently on.
We talked a lot about two players -- Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles. In particular, I asked him about where he ranks Charles and Verderame was not shy about it. He believes Charles is the best running back in the NFL.
Verderame was very critical of the Kansas City receivers. They all are terrible, except for Dwayne Bowe, who is okay. He does not believe they will have any impact on the game Sunday and that the Cardinals secondary will blanket them.
Where do the Chiefs match up most favorably? Verderame says it is the Chiefs' edge rushers against the Cardinals tackles. That makes sense. Justin Houston is having as good a season as can be had and Tamba Hali is still Tamba Hali. They will be tough for both Jared Veldheer and Bobby Massie, especially since Veldheer is not 100 percent this week.
Verderame predicts a close Chiefs win.
