While the everyone around the NFL is focusing on the NFL Combine, there was a tweet on Saturday that perhaps surprised a few people. According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinal, the Arizona Cardinals have interest in outside linebacker Mike Neal, who played for the Green Bay Packers from 2010-2013.
Neal started 10 games in 2013.
He is a big linebacker at 6-3, 285 pounds. He collected five sacks last season. He played OLB in 2013 for the first time in his career. He played defensive end before then.
The reported interest would seem to point to the expected departure of Matt Shaughnessy, who was with Arizona for one season and is seeking probably more money than Arizona wants to pay.
There are a lot of outside linebackers on the roster -- Sam Acho, Lorenzo Alexander, John Abraham and Alex Okafor to name a few. However, Abraham is getting older, Sam Acho is coming back from a broken leg, Okafor is recovering from a torn triceps and Alexander is recovering from a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
Should Neal be a guy the team looks at?
