It's only the offseason, but one of two things readers simultaneously seek out and hate are power rankings (the other is mock drafts). While we are not putting together our own power rankings yet as a site or staff, CBS Sports' Pete Prisco has put together his first set or power rankings for the 2014 season.
Prisco is actually surprisingly good to the Cardinals, something fans are not used to from national media. His initial rankings have Arizona listed as the sixth best team in the league, moving up two slots from the previous list.
I love the makeup of their team. They have a chance to push for the division title. Just remember what they did late last season at Seattle.
It shows how much he believes in the NFC West. Three teams are in his top six.
If you can take the second half of last season for Arizona and plug it in to have them play like that from Week 1, then this is a real possibility. Of course, football isn't that simple. Personnel changes and other teams change, too. There is more film study and coaches find ways to adjust.
In truth, power rankings at this point are simply ranks of respect mixed with a little bit of analysis. Clearly the Cards earned some with their play last season.
Do they deserve to be listed among the league's elite, even this early?
