88 days to kickoff: What Cardinals have worn No. 88?

It hasn't been many.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

There are now 88 days until the Arizona Cardinals begin the regular season on Monday Night Football.

As we continue to focus on a jersey number each day, today's number is special.

No. 88 is one of five numbers that the Cardinals franchise has retired.

It was retired for tight end J.V Cain, who was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1974-1978. He died tragically of congenital heart failure in training camp in 1979. It was his birthday. In four seasons, he caught 76 passes for over 1000 yards and nine touchdowns.

Before Cain, it was worn by receiver Fred Hyatt. He played five seasons in St. Louis. He caught six passes.

From 1959-1966, it was Sonny Randle's number. Randle was a great receiver for the team. He played for the Cards for eight seasons. While a Cardinal, he caught 328 passes for over 5400 yards and 60 touchdowns. He had over 1000 receiving yards in 1962 and 1963. He led the NFL in touchdowns in 1960, when he scored 15.

He was a four-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro in 1960.

The first was Floyd Sagely, who wore 89 for two seasons, but 88 in 1957. He was a defensive back.

Do any of you have any memories of any of these players?
