The Arizona Cardinals take on the Minnesota Vikings this Saturday in their second preseason game. While it is only the preseason, it was still worth it to get some perspective about the opposing team.
That's why I spoke with Daily Norseman's Ted Glover for the latest Revenge of the Birds Radio episode.
Ted filled us in about the offseason of change for the Vikings, which is not unlike what the Arizona Cardinals did in 2013.They have a nee head coach in Mike Zimmer, who brought along offensive coordinator Norv Turner (remember that many of us on this site were hoping that Ray Horton would get the head coaching job and bring Turner to Arizona on his staff).
They drafted Teddy Bridgewater and brought back Matt Cassel at quarterback, and Glover says that Cassel will likley be the guy this season and is optimistic. While he and Bridgewater are competing for the starting job, Glover said that Cassel has the leg up and hasn't done anything to warrant losing the job to Bridgewater, especially since it was Cassel that led the team to three of their five wins a season ago,
Aside from the quarterback talk, we learn about the losses and gains from the offseason (Jasper Brinkley returned to Minny!), why the Jared Allen loss is not the worst thing in the world and how the offense might look differently.
And the sacks the Vikings gave up to the Raiders? Most of them came against the third and fourth team. Glover was not too concerned about the starters and line play.
We talked about Anthony Barr and how he is looking like an impact player early, and also about Jerick McKinnon, whom the Cardinals scouted heavily before the draft.
