2014 NFL countdown: 30 days left and a look at the Cardinal history of No. 30

It's getting closer.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With the Arizona Cardinals kicking off their preseason schedule, there are 30 days left until they kick off their regular season.

So what does the history of No. 30 look like for the Cardinals? Outside of a couple of players, there isn't much to taklk about.

It is presently worn by second-year running back Stepfan Taylor. Drafted in the fifth round in 2013, he now is the second string runner behind Andre Ellington.

Fullback Korey Hall had 30 in 2012 for two days. He was signed when Anthony Sherman was banged up. He practiced a couple of days and then retired.

Cornernack Marshay Green wore 30 in 2011. He was a practice squad player that year and was activated to the 53-man roster in December.

From 2004-06, fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo wore 30. He was the team's fullback those three seasons. He had played for head coach Denny Green when he was in Minnesota. In three years, he caught 70 passes and one touchdown. He rushed the ball 61 times for 205 yards and three scores.

The very disappointing Leeland McElroy wore 30  in 1996 and 1997. He was the team's second round pick in 1996, coming out of Texas A&M. 'Lectric Leeland' was anything but for the Cards, averaging 3.3 YPC in his two seasons.

Running back Ronald Moore had it in 1993-94. He was another late rounder running back that made an impact. A fourth round pick in 1993, he rushed for over 1000 yards his rookie season. His second season was not as good, going for 780 yards. The Cards used him to trade for receiver Ronald Moore.

In 1990, tight end Dave Little wore it. He appeared in 11 games and did not amass any stats.

The stud of No. 30 was running back Stump Mitchell. From 1981-89, he returned kicks and punts and was eventually the team's starting running back. He rushed for over 1000 yards in 1985 and also caught 47 passes for another more than 500 yards. He scored 43 touchdowns in nine seasons. He is now the team's running backs coach.

Before Mitchell:

1978 -- Wllie Shelby

1977 -- Bill Bradley

1973-76 -- Gary Hammond

1972 -- Ara Person

1970-71 -- Paul White

1966-67 -- Charlie Bryant

Do you remember any of these players?
