Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians spoke with the media on Tuesday following the 26-18 win on Monday night. Among many things, we have an injury update. One player will definitely miss this week and another will maybe come back.
Cornerback Jerraud Powers left the game with a hamstring injury. It will cause him to miss time and at least one game. "It looks like a Grade 2 hamstring," he said. "It could be two weeks." That two weeks might miss only missing one game. Arizona has its bye week following their trip this week to Cleveland to play the Browns.
That means Justin Bethel will get to start and that Cariel Brooks will be the backup.
Arians not concerned about the injury situation at the position right now. "The concern would be the next injury or two," said Arians. "We feel that Cariel Brooks has really improved and is ready to go as a backup. Beyond that, we'll be shuffling a lot of guys around. I have all the confidence in the world in Justin (Bethel) to handle the corner. We have so much flexibility at safety with Ty (Mathieu) being able to play corner and we have enough guys to do that. It'd be two injuries where we'd be spinning the bottle to find somebody to play back there."
There is good news. Outside linebacker Alex Okafor could possibly return to the lineup as soon as this week.
"It's going to be real close this week," he said about Okafor's return. "Real close."
