2016 NFL mock draft: Arizona Cardinals projected to take Ohio State DT with late 1st round pick

Is it ever too early to look ahead to the NFL Draft?

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

It might seem ridiculous and perhaps it is, but SB Nation's Dan Kadar is already looking ahead at the 2016 NFL Draft. After the first quarter of the 2015 NFL season in the books, he has put together a mock draft for next year. Now, naturally this is not really going to happen as is, as we don't know how the season will play out for the NFL or for college. Nonetheless, it is worth getting discussion going about potential future Cardinals.

Let's focus on that -- what are potential team needs, where they might be drafting and players who could be available.

Kadar has the Cardinals selecting 28th overall. That is a playoff team that advances in the playoffs, so that's good. The order is based on current NFL Super Bowl odds.

Who do the Cardinals get? They take Ohio State defensive tackle Adolphus Washington.

Washington might not fill the biggest need for the Cardinals, but he is a talented defensive tackle who has played a variety of roles on the line. He would be a pure talent upgrade over veteran Frostee Rucker.

Do you know anything about Washington? I don't yet. Now I can pay attention.

Perhaps to the dismay of some on the site, a first round center goes off the board just two picks later -- USC's Max Tuerk landing with the Seattle Seahawks. Steve Keim has been focusing on the offensive line in the draft and in free agency. He has drafted a guard and a tackle, and he has signed a big name guard and a big name tackle in free agency. They addressed the center position in free agency, but to essentially a backup contract. You have to figure center will be a position of focus  this upcoming offseason.

But what about Washington? He is a leader on the Buckeye defense and was giving preseason All-America honors from multiple places. At 6-4, 290, he does fit the size of the guys Arizona likes on the defensive line. So far this season, he has 28 tackle, two for losses, a sack and an interception through five games.

What do you think of the projected pick? I know he is guy to start watching on Saturdays.
