NFL roster moves: Arizona Cardinals promote former Sun Devil Robert Nelson to active roster

Cariel Brooks was waived/injured.

The Arizona Cardinals made a roster move on Wednesday, announcing a change at cornerback. Cornerback Cariel Books, who was a preseason standout and made the practice squad out of training camp and was elevated to the 53-man roster when before the game against the Cleveland Browns.

However, his time with the Cardinals appears to be done as the team waived/injured him on Wednesday. If he clears waivers, he will land on injured reserve at least until he is healthy again and can be given an injury settlement.

To replace Brooks on the active roster, the team elevated practice squad cornerback and former Arizona State Sun Devil Robert Nelson, Jr.

Nelson, Jr. (5-10, 180) has been on the Cardinals practice squad since signing with the team on September 7. He spent preseason with the Cleveland Browns until he was released on September 5. Nelson, Jr. played collegiately at Arizona State before signing with the Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014 where he played in seven games last season. At Arizona State he recorded 73 tackles and had nine interceptions in 27 games during his two seasons with the Sun Devils after beginning his collegiate career at Louisiana-Monroe.

Nelson, Jr. will wear jersey #27.

In addition, the team has signed cornerback Kevin White to the practice squad.

White (5-10, 174) signed with Atlanta as an undrafted rookie free agent in May and remained with the Falcons until being released on September 4. He played in 50 games (40 starts) at TCU and totaled 146 tackles, six interceptions and 27 passes defensed. White earned second-team all-conference honors as a senior when he had 51 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defensed while helping the Horned Frogs finish 12-1 and share the Big 12 championship.
