NFL playoff picture: Arizona Cardinals currently a 3 seed, Vikings jump ahead with win

What does the playoff situation look like in Week 9?

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

We are almost done with Week 9. There is still Monday Night Football to be had, but we can now start looking at the playoff picture moving forward. The Arizona Cardinals lead the NFC West by a full two games but are still a three seed at the moment in the NFC.

Here are the current NFC standings:

1. Carolina Panthers (8-0)
2. Minnesota Vikings (6-2)
3. Arizona Cardinals (6-2)
4. New York Giants (5-4)
5. Green Bay Packers (6-2)
6. Atlanta Falcons (6-3)

In the mix: St. Louis Rams (4-4), Philadelphia Eagles (4-4), Seattle Seahawks (4-4)

Minnesota jumped over the Packers into the number two seed for the time being and apparently have the tiebreak right now over the Cardinals. Arizona will play both the Vikings and the Packers later this season, and both games are at home.

Over in the AFC, the Bengals are the top seed right now.

1. Cincinnati Bengals (8-0)
2. New England Patriots (8-0)
3, Denver Broncos (7-1)
4,. Indianapolis Colts (4-5)
5. New York Jets (5-3)
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4)

In the mix: Buffalo Bills (4-4), Oakland Raiders (4-4)

The Colts might have turned things around. After a terrible start, they have lost to an unbeaten Patriots team by only a touchdown, lost to an unbeaten Panthers team in overtime and now have pinned the first loss of the season on the Broncos.
