Thursday Night Football picks against the spread, staff picks, open thread

This is probably not the best game to watch on Christmas Eve.

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

There is Thursday Night Football on Christmas Eve and it isn't likely to be all that intriguing. We have a sad San Diego Chargers facing an improved Oakland Raiders team, but neither team have anything to play for other than pride.

In terms of picks against the spread, Oakland is favored by five. The trends might not match up with this year's version of the teams. As a home favorite against San Diego, Oakland is 3-11 ATS. Philip Rivers is 7-3 in his last 10 games against the Raiders, but 3-7 ATS. My money, though, is on Oakland. San Diego had their emotional (perhaps) final game in San Diego. They are a bad team, but used up their emotion last week. Raiders -5.

In terms of staff picks, all eight of us who submitted picks all picked the Raiders. That probably means a Chargers upset.

This is your open thread when the game starts. Enjoy your Christmas Eve and watch some football.
