Arizona Cardinals offseason: GM Steve Keim talks offseason goals

The team wants to get faster on defense.

The NFL will see free agency start in about a month and the NFL Draft will be a little more than a month after that.

What is the plan for the Arizona Cardinals?

General manager Steve Keim was a guest during Newsmaker Week on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and mentioned what the team wants to do to improve, particularly on defense.

"I think it was easy for people to see from a defensive standpoint, our number one goal is to get faster and more athletic, particularly ion the middle, whether it's inside or outside backer, create a better pass rush off the edge," he said. "That's really at the top of our list. But I don't think there's a position on our team we think we can't improve, whether it's starter help or whether it's depth."

He said the same thing about the safety position last offseason and then the team drafted Deone Bucannon, who added speed and athleticism to the safety room, but he ended up being used as a linebacker in dime packages.

As free agency and the draft approach, we'll make sure to look at athletic linebackers and edge players. Clearly, they will be the focus of the team's attention in the weeks to come.

Are there players you would like the Cardinals to add that fit this description?
