NFL free agents: Oft-injured Sean Weatherspoon 'leaning towards' joining Arizona Cardinals

The team could be adding a high end talent to the defense, if he can stay healthy.

We had a recent article stating how the Arizona Cardinals would be pursuing linebackers Sean Weatherspoon and Native Irving in free agency. We have a little bit more. According to a league source, as reported by Rand Getlin, Weatherspoon is "leaning towards signing with the Arizona Cardinals.

Weatherspoon was drafted in the first round in 2010 by the Atlanta Falcons and had very good 2011 and 2012 seasons, averaging 105 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He only played in seven games in 2013 and then tore his Achille's in the 2014 offseason, causing him to miss the entire season.

The Falcons tried to retain him, but a report early Saturday indicated he would hit the open market when free agency officially begins on Tuesday.

Weatherspoon, when healthy, can be a top linebacker. The issue is he hasn't been healthy recently. He has missed 28 games over the last three seasons.

Of course, that fact also likely means a much lower asking price.

If this does end up happening, will it be on a one-year deal, or do the Cardinals try and get him for multiple seasons?
