Yes, this is yet another post on a rumored Arizona Cardinals free agent interest. It is perhaps to land a player who can play where Darnell Dockett did -- left defensive end (or "defensive tackle" as the Cardinals call it).
In an interview with Washington DC's ESPN 980, Redskins defensive end and soon-to-be free agent Jarvis Jenkins expects the Arizona Cardinals to pursue him.
The Cardinals are reportedly the "team that is expected to come after Jenkins pretty hard" when communications were allowed starting on Saturday between agents and teams.
Jenkins, 6-4 and 309 pounds, was a second round pick by the Redskins in 2011 out of Clemson. He did not play at all in 2011, but started 14 games in 2012 and 2014, in addition to five starts in 2013. He has two career sacks and 75 career tackles.
He played in a little more than 52 percent of Washington's defensive snaps in 2014 and has played left end, right end and nose tackle in Washington.
Arizona has mostly unproven players now on the roster. Dan Williams and Alameda Ta'amu are free agents. Dockett left for San Francisco after being released. Only Frostee Rucker and Calais Campbell remain as players who have more than a few games in the NFL under their belt.
Jenkins wouldn't likely command a big payday and would probably be a rotational player. However, Pro Football Focus had him at an overall negative grade and also at a negative grade in both pass rushing and in playing the run.
Would he be a good pickup to add to the depth on the defensive line?
