NFL free agents: Recently released Ted Ginn reportedly returning to Panthers

The disappointing Cardinals signing from a year ago finds himself back where he was before.

The Arizona Cardinals saw Darnell Dockett sign with the San Francisco 49ers after the team released him. Now another player they released is reportedly joining another team. Receiver and returner Ted Ginn is reportedly rejoining the Carolina Panthers, where he spent the 2013 season, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Ginn signed with the Cardinals in 2014 on a three-year $9.75 million contract and was expected to shore up the problems the team had in the return game, as well as add speed to the receiving corps.

He had a disappointing season.

He averaged 19 yards per kick return, which led to the Cardinals being dead last in the league in that department. He lost the number three receiver role to rookie John Brown and ended the season with only 14 catches on the season.

Ginn was released to free up $2.5 million in salary cap space. His contract still counts $1.5 million against the cap this year for the Cardinals.

In 2013, Ginn caught 36 passes for the Panther and scored five touchdowns. It was the best production he had had as a receiver since 2009.
