There has been much debate on how the punishment for Daryl Washington will go. Well, if it's anything like the punishment Greg Hardy received, the Cardinals will be without their star linebacker for the first 10 games of the 2015 season.
While many will debate whether or not this much time is deserved, the reality is the commissioner and his office cannot retroactively use the new rules on incidents that happened before the rules were put in place. No, instead these players are at the mercy of the whim of Roger Goodell.
Whether or not you like Goodell and his tenure, if Hardy is the benchmark of punishment, then he is sending a hardline message, something that everyone should applaud.
Once Washington is reinstated, he will face discipline from the commissioner's office. That discipline is deserved. The question is, how much more time will Daryl Washington miss, and if he is going to be suspended for a significant chunk of the season, should Arizona simply cut ties?
