The Arizona Cardinals media staff got together to talk NFL Draft on Cards Underground. Darren Urban, Kyle Odegard and Dave Pasch talked about the needs the team has entering the 2015 NFL Draft.
There were three main positions discussed -- outside linebacker, running back and cornerback. Another -- offensive tackle -- got some mention at the end of the podcast.
Discussing the pass rushers, Pasch, the broadcast voice of the Cardinals and ESPN college announcer, brought up Shane Ray and Bud Dupree as good fits and even brought up Randy Gregory. Pasch did not believe Ray would fall to the Cardinals, but now it is more possible as his foot injury is causing him to slip in recent mock drafts. The question is whether any of the more talented pass rushers will be available when the Cardinals make their selection.
Next was the talk of running backs. While Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley were brought up, the notion of drafting a running back in the first round didn't seem likely, according to the Cardinals media guys. Pasch brought up Ameer Abdullah as a guy who is very talented and now a bit under the radar. He also mentioned David Cobb.
The the attention turned to cornerback. Drafting a cornerback in the first round is definitely a possibility. The name that has come up on multiple Cardinals podcasts now is Byron Jones, whose Combine performance impressed everyone. The Cardinals do like him. Jalen Collins and his character issues came up.
At the end of the show, Pasch brought up the possibility of a tackle being drafted, especially since Bobby Massie will be a free agent. He brought up names like D.j. Humphries and Andrus Peat. He even suggested the team woudl not hesitate to draft one who they believe is better than Massie and put Massie on the bench.
