No need to worry about unsigned 1st round pick DJ Humphries

It is coming soon enough.

The Arizona Cardinals will be begin organized team activities (OTAs) with all but one of their seven draft picks under contract. With the announcement of the signing of third round pick David Johnson and seventh round selection Gerald Christian, only first rounder D.J. Humphries is left without a contract.

But there is nothing to worry about.

Humphries will still likely be at OTAs and will participate. Not having a contract doesn't keep the rookies out of those. If training camp rolls around and no deal, then it becomes an issue.

If you are worried about Humphries and his contract, you have a short memory. You must not recall the days when first rounders regularly missed part of training camp because of contract negotiations.

Last year's first round pick Deone Bucannon signed on June 5. Jonathan Cooper didn't sign his contract until the first day of training camp, and even then it wasn't considered a big deal.

With how rookie salaries work, it will happen sooner rather than later. Once the draft picks around Humphries sign, then we will see him with his deal.

It isn't because he is selfish or a diva. It's just not quite done.
