Bruce Arians not pleased with any of QB3 candidates, was hoping for more from Logan Thomas

Arizona might end up just going with two QBs on the roster.

When training camp starts, one of the positions of interest to watch for roster battles is the third quarterback. Arizona has five quarterbacks on the roster -- three for the final spot. They are last year's fourth round pick Logan Thomas, former Colt Chandler Harnish and undrafted rookie Phillip Sims. But, with mini-camp done, head coach Bruce Arians isn't real thrilled with anyone and that third spot on the roster might not be so interesting.

When asked after the final practice of mini-camp about the third quarterback battle, Arians said he was "not real pleased with any of them."

"They've all got to step it up if we're going to have a third quarterback," he said.

Arians has said in the past he is not afraid to go into a season with only two QBs. Of course, that might seem like an odd thing to do after the team used four last season because of injuries.

But with no one standing out and other position groups with talent to spare, it is a real possibility.

Logan Thomas was the favorite entering the offseason. However, Thomas is apparently not where he should be. He struggled enough last year that, after both Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton were out with injuries, he was benched after only one practice as the starter. The team instead turned to Ryan Lindley.

Arians was asked where Thomas stood right now. He called him "a work in progress." He said, "He makes till makes some of those wild throws out there that make you scratch your head."

Arians also said he had hoped Thomas would be further ahead in his progress.

With five quarterbacks on the roster, it is highly likely there will be a roster move made before the start of training camp. At the most, four will be kept to start. Who will be the odd man out early? And will the Cardinals actually only keep two on the 53-man roster?
