Patrick Peterson conspicuously absent from projected All-NFC West defensive team

Could there be more than just one on the squad?

Yes, the slowness of the offseason means commentary on projected all-division teams. This one comes from the All-NFC West defensive team put together by Fox Sports.

The division probably has the best defensive talent in the NFL overall, so there are hard decisions.

But in this list, only one Cardinals player makes the cut -- defensive lineman Calais Campbell. As the squad is set as a 4-3 defense, Campbell is placed there as a defensive tackle.

Campbell is one of those rare tackles that can play the pass just as good as the run. He is an absolute force on the line and has been very consistent during his seven-year career with the Cardinals. Campbell will once again put up the numbers that make him one of the premiere defensive tackles in football.

And that wraps up the Cardinals on the list.

Putting another Cardinal on the D-line or replacing one of the current linebackers with one from Arizona is tough, although you could make an argument for Alex Okafor instead of Bruce Irvin. Irvin had 6.5 sacks last season, while Okafor had nine.

However, this squad had Richard Sherman and E.J. Gaines at cornerback, not Sherman and Patrick Peterson. Yes, Peterson had a tough 2014, but with his health back to where it should be, do people really think Gaines will be better than he will be? Perhaps, but it seems like a reach of a projection.

At safety, it is hard to take Kam Chancellor off the list, but Antoine Bethea? At least have Earl Thomas there instead. of course, Tyrann Mathieu or Deone Bucannon could shine in 2015 as well.

Should there have been more Cardinals on this list?
