2015 NFL countdown: 74 days left and Cardinals uniform No. 74

A rookie has it!

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

We look at jersey No. 74 today as the Arizona Cardinals are now 74 days away from the start of their 2015 season opener. There is a lot of hope for the current bearer of No. 74.

It now belongs to first round pick D.J. Humphries.

While it does not now appear he will be a starter this year, he is expected to be a big part of the Cardinals line in 2016 and beyond.

The history of the number is pretty unimpressive. Paul Fanaika wore it. D'Anthony Batiste wore it. Reggie Wells wore it and probably was the best. Wells was okay, but nothing spectacular.

A player of note was only here one year, but is an Arizona State Hall of Famer -- Danny Villa. He played five seasons with the Patriots before he was acquire by the Cardinals. He played both center and right tackle, starting 12 games. I always thought he played here longer, but he was only here in 1992 and wore No. 74.

Villa unfortunately has not had a goo post-football career. He was sentenced to two years in prison in 2008 for statutory rape and enticing a minor. Whoops.
