The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly already made a contract offer to veteran free agent running back Chris Johnson. He mulled it over and now it appears he is ready to join the team.
According to Jay Glazer, Johnson will come to Arizona on Sunday to work out and take a physical. With the Cardinals already having given him an offer, it would seem very likely he will sign and become a member of the Arizona Cardinals, who are banged up at the running back position.
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians was not pleased with how his running backs have performed in camp and has had several out with injuries.
Andre Ellington just returned from a hamstring injury. Rookie David Johnson is still out with a hamstring injury. The same is with Marion Grice. Ellington will play in Saturday night's preseason opener against the Chiefs.
If Johnson signs, he would be expected to share the offensive workload with Ellington, pushing the rookie Johnson back and possibly Kerwynn Williams off the roster.
Johnson, who will turn 30 this season, enters his eighth NFL season. He gained over 1000 yards rushing in each of his first six seasons, including a season of more than 2000 yards. In 2014 as a member of the New York Jets, he gained 663 yards on 4.3 yards per carry.
