There are now 26 days left until the start of the regular season for the Arizona Cardinals.
Jersey No. 26 has had some decent players, although no real stars.
It is now worn by veteran safety Rashad Johnson, perhaps the smartest player on the defense. He is battling for playing time with may other safeties, but will figure to have a prominent role no matter whether he starts or not.
Running back Beanie Wells wore it before Johnson and cornerback Rod Hood before that.
Highly drafted and highly disappointing running back Thomas Jones wore it for three seasons before breaking his hand "answering the phone." He was one of a long line of running back busts for Arizona. he did, though, get it together and played for 12 seasons.
The big-hitting Chuck Cecil wore 26 in his two seasons in Arizona.
Going way back, you can find return specialist and punter Chuck Latourette. He wore 26 from 1967-1970. He was an interesting combination. He punted for the Cardinals and also returned punts and kicks. He punted 65 times in 1968 for an average of over 41 yards and also led the NFL in punt returns, punt return yards, kickoff returns and kickoff return yards. Wow.
Do you have any other 26 memories? Here is the full list.
