2015 NFL countdown: 25 days remaining and a look at Cardinals No. 25

It is getting closer.

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

There are now only 25 days remaining until the Arizona Cardinals kick off their regular season at home against the New Orleans Saints.

The number 25 has been used a lot in recent years.

It now belongs to cornerback Jerraud Powers, who will likely be a starter this year. He started for the Cardinals in 2013 and was the team's nickel corner in 2014, where he was very good.

Kerry Rhodes, Bryant McFadden and Eric Green have worn it in recent years, as well as Corey Chavous.

But the player to recall is Jim Bakken, who wore No. 25 from 1962-1978. He was the kicker for the St. Louis Cardinals for 17 years. He made four Pro Bowls and was a first team All-Pro twice. Twice he led the NFL in field goal accuracy and twice in field goals made. He led the league in scoring once.

For two seasons he held both the kicking and punting duties.

He is the franchise leader in points with 1389. The player next in line, Neil Rackers, scored 699 for the Cardinals. He will probably hold that record forever.
