The Arizona Cardinals finish their home preseason slate early. Their second preseason game is their final home game of the exhibition and tryout phase of the football season. They host the San Diego Chargers Saturday night. It is almost a yearly tradition. It will be the 22 meeting between the two teams in the preseason and this marks the 11th time in the last 16 years. The Chargers hold a 12-9 series edge in the preseason, if anyone is counting and in their last preseason game against one another, in 2014, the Chargers won 12-9.
The Cardinals haven't beaten the Chargers in the preseason since 2003. That's ok, though, because the Cards got the win when it counted last year, opening the regular season with an 18-17 win at home over San Diego.
Tonight's game will have a full quarter of starters for Arizona. Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the starters played one series on offense and one on defense. They were very effective as the offense scored a touchdown in seven plays and the defense forced a turnover in only five.
