An interesting set of numbers is always seeing the playing time during the regular season. You get to see, in part, how the Cardinals view some players -- are they saving them? Are they giving them extra work with missed practice time?
In the preseason, though, it isn't as easy to find meaning, as teams have their younger players and third and fourth string guys play longer.
So I know there isn't a ton to take away from preseason snap counts, but here they are anyway for the offensive side of the ball.
Offense:
Quarterbacks: Drew Stanton, 28; Phillip Sims, 23; Carson Palmer, 13; Logan Thomas, 9
I know Thomas wasn't out there much, but I didn't realize it was that much less than everyone. It was either game circumstances, or they wanted to get a longer look at Sims.
Running backs: David Johnson, 27. Marion Grice, 23; Andre Ellington, 13; Kerwynn Willliams, 9; Robert Hughes, 7; Stepfan Taylor, 1; Paul Lasike, 1
Taylor made the most of his one snap, catching a pass and running for a little while. Johnson got 27 snaps and 15 touches in just over a quarter. We can say the team wanted to feature him. The same goes for Grice. Both players missed a ton of time, so they got a lot of snaps.
Receivers: Brittan Golden, 31; Jaxon Shipley, 27; John Brown, 26; Larry Fitzgerald, 26; Jaron Brown, 25; J.J. Nelson, 25; Ryan Spadola, 19; Trevor Harman, 7
It is interesting how the back end of the receivers didn't get a ton of work. I would expect Spadola and Harman to be among first cuts.
Tight ends: Ifeanyi Momah, 52; Darren Fells, 25; Troy Niklas, 21
Notice there was not a single snap for Garrett Sinclair or Gerald Christian. That is interesting. They got a heavy look at Momah, who didn't have a great game. If I had to guess, Christian isn't making the team.
Offensive line: Cameron Bradfield, 45; Anthony Steen, 45; Jon Halapio, 32; Jared Veldheer, 29; Bradley Sowell, 28; Jonathan Cooper, 28; A.Q. Shipley, 28; Ted Larsen, 28; Bobby Massie, 23; Earl Watford, 22; D.J. Humphries, 22; Antoine McClain, 22
The only thing I don't get is how Veldheer got one snap more than the rest of the starters.
