There are only 18 days left until the Arizona Cardinals play in Week 1.
Who has worn No. 18 in history?
It now belongs to receiver Ryan Spadola. He gets playing time in the fourth quarter of preseason games. He might perhaps be a practice squad guy this year.
In recent years, it has been the number worn by back of the roster wideouts who have made the team after not being drafted -- Kerry Taylor, Max Komar and Stephen Williams.
Quarterback Cliff Stoudt wore from 1986-1988. He was Neil Lomax' backup. In four starts in three seasons, the Cards went 0-4.
Probably the best of No. 18 was a punter -- Carl Birdsong (fun last name). He was the punter for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1981-1985. He was a Pro Bowler in 1983.
Well, that isn't much of a history of a number. No. 19 (which I missed on Tuesday) wasn't much better, as it included guys like John Skelton.
Do you have any 18 memories? The list is here.
It is worth noting we all had the hope, at least for a short time, there would be a great No. 18. Remember when the Cardinals had a shot at Peyton Manning and he even came to Arizona for a visit? Yeah, that was disappointing.
