The Arizona Cardinals announced 11 roster moves on Monday. They were required to cut their roster down to 75 players. With 11 announced moves, they are one player from that limit. Normally there are mostly players considered camp bodies who appear on these lists, but there are a couple of notable veterans who will not be playing for Arizona.
Veteran linebacker and special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander and punter Dave Zastudil were cut. Alexander had lost his playing time on defense to LaMarr Woodley, while it appears Drew Butler has won the punting competition.
Both moves bring salary cap savings. Alexander was going to count $2 million against the cap. Now released, it will save $1.55 million in cap space. Zastudil was set to count more than $1.6 million against the cap. His release saves more than $1.3 million against the cap.
Releasing them also gives these veterans an early jump on landing on other rosters.
The other moves were the release of the following players:
- ILB Glenn Carson
- G Nate Isles
- ILB Edwin Jackson
- ILB Andrae Kirk
- CB Shaquille Richardson
- TE Gannon Sinclair
- WR Ryan Spadola
- CB Darren Woodard
