The regular season begins for the Arizona Cardinals in 12 days. 12 has been a decent number for a few years. Who has worn it?

It is the number that currently belongs to John Brown, who has a heap of expectations upon him by many. It will be Year 2 for him. He was an impact player for the team as season ago and many believe his potential has no ceiling as a receiver.

Before Brown, it was the number Andre Roberts wore. Another third round pick, he was solid for four seasons.

Quarterback Josh McCown, who was a part-time starter for the Cardinals between 2002 and 2005, also wore it. After being a backup for a while and a year out of the league, he now is the starter for the Browns.

But the player to remember is Charley Johnson, who played quarterback for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1961-1969. He started for five seasons and was a Pro Bowler in 1963. He led the team to a 9-5 record. He threw for over 3200 yards and 28 touchdowns that season. He led the league in passing yardage the next season.

As a starter, he was 36-28-5 for the Cardinals. He is fifth all-time for the franchise in passing yards and third all-time in touchdowns, behind only Jim Hart and Neil Lomax. In fact, he and Carson Palmer are the only two quarterbacks to start more than 10 games and have a winning record. Impressive.
