It has been a rough season for the Arizona Cardinals, sitting at 4-4-1 and on the outside looking in at the playoffs. Even more than that, it has been a rough season injury wise, as a number of important veteran pieces, as well as young depth have endured season ending injuries.
Add another one to the list as linebacker Gabe Martin has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
In his stead the Arizona Cardinals will activate newly signed Zaviar Gooden from the practice squad.
Gooden, a former third round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans is an athletic, undersized linebacker, but in today’s NFL, that may not be the worst thing. He has to replace Martin on special teams and in the linebacker depth, but he has the ability to handle both, whether it finally clicks for Gooden will be the overall question.
It has been a tough season for sure, but wins seem to cure a lot, so maybe a win on Sunday will make this a little easier to stomach for Martin and help get Gooden off on the right foot.
