The Arizona Cardinals sit at the ten spot in the NFC with half the season left to go, putting them in an interesting spot in terms of making the playoffs. Even more interesting is their spot regarding their draft position.
Through the midway point of the season, according to Draft Wire, through Scott Carasick, the Arizona Cardinals sit with the 14th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
The question now is, how far up do they go? Up as in, closer to the 20’s, because even with the struggles of this season, I personally have a hard time seeing this team finishing below teams like the Titans, Lions, and maybe even the Bills (who yes beat them, but are struggling right now having lost two in a row).
The 14th pick over the last five years:
2016: Karl Joseph, S, Oakland Raiders
2015: DeVante Parker, WR, Miami Dolphins
2014: Kyle Fuller, CB, Chicago Bears
2013: Star Lotulelei, DT, Carolina Panthers
2012: Michael Brockers, DT, St. Louis Rams
Quarterbacks available at the 14th pick, picked in round one only:
2016: Paxton Lynch
2015: None
2014: Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel
2013: E.J. Manuel
2012: Brandon Weeden
So there could be an option, if there is no movement from the Cardinals, which there will be, but it will take quite the discerning GM to make sure that the pick is closer to Bridgewater than Manuel. We won’t even count Weeden and Manziel, those were Browns picks… sorry Justin.
