David Johnson wins NFC Player of the Month

The Arizona Cardinals running back is moving at a historic pace in 2016

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

As a team, the Arizona Cardinals are nowhere near where they expected at the bye week, but the production and output of their second year running back, David Johnson, has surpassed the wildest dreams of even the most hard core fan.

David Johnson was rewarded by the NFL for his spectacular month with the NFC Offensive Player of the Month award.

For the month David Johnson ran for 488 yards and had 238 receiving yards, totalling 726 yards from scrimmage.

His 726 yards from scrimmage in October led the NFL and was tied for the NFL lead in rushing touchdowns with five in the month.

On the season, David Johnson leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 1,112 yards and his eight touchdowns are tied for the third most in the NFL.

Amazingly, or maybe not, it is only the third offensive player of the month award (which began in 1986).

Neil Lomax in 1988 and Boomer Esiason in 1996 are the only other two recipients from the Cardinals.

Congratualations to Johnson on the amazing first half of the season, hopefully the team can follow his lead for the second half and dominate.
