NFL.com draft analyst Daniel Jeremish published his second mock draft of the NFL Draft season. It has an interesting name for the Arizona Cardinals, who are seeking to add pass rushing ability to their defense.
Instead of the names like Leonard Floyd or Noah Spence, both of whom are drafted well before the Cardinals pick at 29, Jeremiah provides us with Boise State defensive lineman Kamalei Correa as the pick for Arizona.
This is what he wrote about the pick:
Correa has a great get-off, plenty of production and an unrelenting motor.
It is a name I had never heard of.
The interesting thing is there is a more well known name from a big program who was left out of the first round -- Shaq Lawson. He makes it out of the first round without being drafted.
Who is Correa? Jeremiah noted him back in December as a potential draft sleeper.
I didn't know much about the Boise State junior linebacker before last week. However, after watching his tape I was very intrigued. He's extremely explosive, athletic and productive. His motor is outstanding, too.
I was pumped to see him play live at the Poinsettia Bowl and he didn't disappoint with his performance. He showed the ability to set the edge in the run game and he generated a lot of pressure, including multiple sacks. Boise State moves him around on obvious passing downs, allowing him to pick a rush lane and cut it loose.
He isn't a polished technician as a pass rusher, but he gets by on pure speed and agility. Once he learns to consistently use his hands, he'll take his game to a whole new level.
He is certainly an intriguing option, but he would definitely need some developing in his first year before he makes any sort of contribution. However, in many ways, he reminds me of another former Boise State edge player who was highly thought of by Cardinals fans a couple of years ago -- Demarcus Lawrence.
Lawrence didn't have a single sack his first season and missed many games with an injury. He flashed in the playoffs and then followed it with eight sacks this past season.
What would you think of a Correa pick?
